A couple years ago we shared a popular video series making its way around the internet: Sh*t White Girls Say…To Black Girls Part 1, Sh*t White Girls Say…To Black Girls Part 2, Sh*t Mixed People Get. Today I ran across “@#$% People Say to Transracial Families”
Enjoy!

We get variations on some of these comments on a regular basis, but the way this video mashes it up is hysterical!
Lately, the most common comment I am getting that strikes me as odd is that everyone I know now says how similar our two boys look – I think they look as distinct from each other as they ever did (they are so different in almost every way, as is probably apparent from many of my posts here). It may be that I’m being overly sensitive, but I feel that there is a bit of the “all kids of another race look similar to someone not of that race”.
And the one that really annoys me is when people say “Those kids are sooooo lucky to have you as their parents!”. My usual response is that “No, it’s we who are lucky to have them, they’re such wonderful kids, and we are so fortunate to have the honor of raising them.” But I find the premise, and the unspoken implication that we have done something particularly noble, and self-sacrificing in adopting two boys of color to be grating.
